New to Church?
Welcome!

What happens at a church service?

Our services include prayers, Bible readings, a short talk, and sometimes singing. In many services, we also share bread and wine in Holy Communion, remembering Jesus’ Last Supper. You can join in as much or as little as you feel comfortable.

Where do I park?

All our churches have on street parking. You should normally be able to find somewhere to park close by. St Winifred's in Penrhiwceiber and St Margaret's in Mountain Ash are each about 10 minute's walk from the nearest rail stations.

How long does the service last?

Sunday services last about an hour, and include prayers, hymns, a short talk (the sermon) and Holy Eucharist. Weekday services last about 30 minutes. They are much simpler and don't include hymns or a sermon.

Do I need to dress a certain way?

Not at all! Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. Some people dress up, others come in jeans and a jumper. You are welcome just as you are.

How will I know what to do?

Our services are easy to follow and you'll be given a service sheet which tells you what the Vicar will say, which parts you join in with, and when to stand up or sit down. If there are hymns in the service, you'll be given a hymn book or a service sheet with the words. If you like, someone will be happy to guide you. There’s no pressure though—just come and experience it in your own way.

What if I don't know the hymns or can't sing?

That’s absolutely okay! You don’t need to know the hymns or be a great singer to feel at home here. Some people love to sing, while others prefer to listen and take in the moment. You'll be given a hymn book or service sheet with all the words, and you may recognise some of the tunes. You’re welcome to join in as much or as little as you feel comfortable—there’s no pressure at all. Church is about being together, not about how well you can sing!

Weekday services don't include hymns, so feel free to come to those if you prefer.

Can I bring my children?

Yes! Children are always welcome. Some of our churches have children's corners with books and toys to keep little ones entertained. We also run dedicated Sunday Schools in some churches to help them learn more about God's love in their own way.

Do I have to give money?

No, there’s no charge to come to church. There is sometimes a collection to support the church’s work, but giving is entirely optional. If you would like to donate to the collection, please bring some cash (we suggest between £5 and £10).

I’m not sure what I believe. Can I still come?

Absolutely! Church is a place to explore faith, ask questions, and find community. You don’t need to have everything figured out—just come and see.

What if I have more questions?

We’d love to help! Feel free to ask when you visit or get in touch with us anytime.

We look forward to welcoming you soon!
